Have you recently adopted a rabbit? Bunnies really do make adorable little pets. They’re fun, lovable, and super cute. These little furballs are also quite charismatic and personable. Some are even a bit bossy! Floppy does have some unique care needs, however. If you want to pamper your pet, read on. A Pickerington, OH vet lists some cute ways to keep your pet ‘hoppy’ and healthy below.
Playroom
Bunnyproofing is an absolute must for people with rabbits. Bunnies will chew on anything and everything within paw’s reach. This can be dangerous for both your pet and your belongings, so you’ll need to take steps to protect both of them. One way to do this is to bunnyproof a specific room, and make that Floppy’s play area.
Treats
Most of our patients enjoy yummy treats, and rabbits are no exception. Floppy has a bit of a sweet tooth, so her favorite snacks are things like apple slices and strawberries. Just don’t go overboard here. Too much sugar isn’t safe for your little furball!
Chew Toys
Chew toys really shouldn’t be considered a luxury item for rabbits. Floppy needs to chew frequently to keep her teeth from growing too long. However, your furry pal will be much happier if she always has a variety of safe, fun things to nibble on. Many wood, wicker, and cardboard items are fine. Ask your vet for more information.
Free Time
Living in a cage can get quite boring. Floppy will get stressed and unhappy with nothing to do. Rabbits need several hours of supervised ‘recess’ time every day. Use this time to play with her, pet her, and groom her.
Buddies
What’s cuter than one bunny? Two bunnies! Rabbits often bond very closely with their roommates. Just make sure to only keep same-sex furballs together.
Hopstacle Course
Consider making Floppy a hopstacle course. You can use sturdy crates or boxes, ottomans, footstools, or plastic storage totes.
Cuddles
Rabbits can be quite affectionate, but they tend to want to do everything on their terms. While there are plenty of lap bunnies out there, many of these furballs are happier just sitting near or next to their humans. Let Floppy have it her way. Just make sure that she feels loved and safe.As your Pickerington, OH veterinary clinic, we’re dedicated to offering great care. Feel free to contact us anytime!
