Veterinary Technicians

Gina

Gina C.

Registered Veterinary Technician

A veterinary technician plays an integral role in the success of an animal clinic, and Gina realizes this. That’s why she’s a registered veterinary technician at Winchester Veterinary Clinic. She has always had a love for animals, so this position gives her the perfect opportunity to live out her dream on a daily basis!

Gina was raised on a farm, so she became familiar with animals at a very young age. Her family raised a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, chickens, cows, pigs and lambs. She joined 4H and Future Farmers of America, which gave her even more opportunities to be around animals. Gina would go on to graduate from vet tech school at Columbus State, and then proceeded to officially begin her career as a veterinary technician.

There are several aspects of being at Winchester Veterinary Clinic that Gina enjoys, but she particularly likes handling patients who are there to undergo dental procedures. She gets a great deal of satisfaction knowing she’s helping an animal with dental discomfort feel better.

In her free time, Gina enjoys being around her family, including her husband, their two children and combined 5 pets. On Saturdays in the fall, you can be sure to catch her faithfully watching her favorite football team, the Ohio State Buckeyes!

Missy S.

Missy S.

Registered Veterinary Technician

When she was six years old, Missy got her first pet: a guinea pig named Tinkerbell. Tinkerbell taught Missy all about being responsible for animals and about the wonderful companionship they bring. From that moment on, Missy was never without a pet! Now she gets to care for them full-time as a Veterinary Technician at Winchester Veterinary Clinic.

At first, Missy attended college for a different career path. One day, she walked into a veterinary office with a friend. Sitting in the exam room listening to the veterinarian talk about her friend’s dog, something came over Missy. The next week, she’d changed her major and was enrolled in Columbus State Community College’s Veterinary Technician program! She began working as an Assistant at Winchester Veterinary Clinic before graduating, and started as a Technician after she’d finished school in 2004.

One of Missy’s special interests is surgery. She likes to assist the doctor during a procedure, whether she’s monitoring anesthesia or is scrubbed in to work hands-on with the pet. She also loves that no two days are the same and that her job constantly keeps her on her toes.

Missy and her husband have been married since 2006. They have one son and three rescued cats named Winnie, Gray, and Zoe. Missy’s family was recently increased by two as they adopted two chihuahua mix puppies from the Fairfield Area Humane Society – Yoda and Izzy!

In her spare time, Missy enjoys spending time with friends and family. There’s rarely a weekend when she doesn’t have family or friends over to visit! She also loves doing anything crafty.

Veterinary Assistants

Sarah

Sarah

Veterinary Assistant

Sarah’s journey to Winchester Vet Clinic is a return to the work that has always felt most natural to her. Growing up in Northeast Ohio, animals were woven into her everyday life. Her childhood was spent caring for family dogs and cats and riding horses, and those early experiences planted a deep sense of purpose that stayed with her. In college, she strengthened that connection while working at the OSU dairy and assisting veterinarians.

Although her studies in animal science and public health led her into a decade-long career with the Ohio Department of Agriculture working in food safety, she eventually realized something important was missing. While the work mattered, it did not fulfill her the way hands-on animal care always had. After ten years, she made the courageous decision to leave that field behind and return to the passion that had shaped her early life. That decision brought her back into veterinary medicine and ultimately to Winchester Vet Clinic.

As a veterinary assistant, Sarah finds her greatest joy in helping animals feel better and supporting the families who love them. Some of her most meaningful moments come when a patient arrives not feeling well and she can be part of the team that sends them home with a clear plan and newfound hope. Those experiences remind her daily why she chose this path and why she feels most rewarded when working with animals.

Sarah now lives in Columbus with her husband and their two dogs, Cosmo, a spirited super mutt, and Bear, a Rottweiler and Shepherd mix with a gentle personality. Outside the clinic, she enjoys hiking with her husband and their dogs, spending time with friends and family, reading, and knitting. These simple but grounding activities give her balance and allow her to bring warmth, patience, and dedication to the animals and people she serves each day.

Alyson

Veterinary Assistant

Some connections take time to fully understand. For Alyson, that realization came in a quiet, everyday moment during her childhood. Her dog slept at the foot of her bed each night and stayed close while she played outside, always present and attentive. Over time, Alyson began to recognize what that loyalty meant, and it shaped how she saw animals and the role they play in people’s lives.

Growing up in Columbus, Ohio, Alyson was surrounded by animals of all kinds, from horses and chickens to dogs and cats. Life in a more rural setting meant hands-on experience from an early age, building a natural comfort and familiarity with animals regardless of species or temperament. That environment helped develop her interest in not only caring for animals, but understanding how to support their health and well-being.

Alyson’s first step into the field came through working at a pet store, where she realized she wanted to do more than help animals find homes. She wanted to be part of improving their lives within the homes they already had. That shift in perspective led her to pursue veterinary medicine, where she could take a more active role in supporting both pets and their owners.

She joined Winchester Veterinary Clinic in January 2026 after applying for a position that aligned with her goals. As a Veterinary Assistant, Alyson values the opportunity to contribute in meaningful ways, even through small actions that make a difference. She enjoys sharing knowledge with clients and helping them better understand how to care for their pets, knowing that education plays an important role in long-term health.

Outside of the clinic, Alyson spends time with her two yellow labs, Ripley and Ryder. Whether hiking, swimming, or playing ball, they remain a constant part of her life and a reminder of the connection that first inspired her path.

Shannon

Shannon R.

Veterinary Assistant, Receptionist

When she was a little girl, a very mean Chihuahua lived a few houses down from Shannon’s family home. After the dog saw Shannon walk by enough, he started to act a bit friendlier. To this day, Shannon doesn’t know why she was so determined to be friends with him, but she was eventually able to go right up and sit on the porch with the dog! This experience made Shannon realize she wanted to befriend and help all animals.

A central Ohio native, Shannon sparked her career in animal care during high school, when she discovered a program focused on animal management. Throughout the years, Shannon has tried out several jobs, but nothing satisfied her the way animal care did. She loves interacting with both pets and people, so this career path is the perfect fit.

Shannon and her daughter Tori live with many pets. They have four dogs—Brother Bear, Jewels, Pig, and Ceaser—as well as a cat named Napoleon. They also have two rats, Lilly and Peaches, three rescued Ball Pythons named Doug, Danzig, and Dexter, and a Kenyan Sand Boa named Pugsly who serves as the educational snake at the clinic.

Kate

Kate

Veterinary Assistant, Kennel Manager & Receptionist

Kate’s journey at Winchester Veterinary Clinic began with a simple desire, to work closely with animals and make a meaningful difference in their lives. She started as a kennel technician, drawn to the day-to-day responsibility of caring for pets and giving them a safe, comforting place to stay. Her dedication quickly stood out, and she was promoted to kennel manager before eventually growing into her current role as a veterinary assistant. With each step, her commitment deepened, and she discovered how fulfilling it was to support both pets and their families through every stage of care.

Her love for animals started early in childhood. Kate always shared a special bond with her family dogs, but one dog in particular—Prince—shaped her future more than she realized at the time. When Prince became seriously ill during her teenage years, Kate devoted herself to comforting him through the end of his life. That experience, though heartbreaking, was meaningful. Caring for him through his final chapter opened her eyes to how powerful compassionate care can be and planted the idea that she wanted to provide that same level of comfort to other families and their pets.

In college, she adopted a cat for companionship and discovered a new appreciation for feline personalities. That experience expanded her love for animals and reinforced her passion for pursuing work in veterinary care.

Today, Kate finds joy in many aspects of her role. She loves joining doctors in appointments, talking with pet owners, and being the one to offer affection, treats, and reassurance to anxious pets. She is enthusiastic about veterinary science and values the chance to keep learning each day, always seeking new ways to care for animals with skill and kindness.

Kate strives to always grow her knowledge of veterinary medicine and is dedicated to expanding her skills so she can provide skilled and compassionate care for every animal she meets.

Receptionists

Cyndi

Cyndi B.

Receptionist

When she was about 13 years old, Cyndi found a stray cat and put her in the playhouse. Cyndi would take food and water out to the cat every day, and a week later the cat gave birth to three kittens. By this point, Cyndi’s mind was made up: she simply had to work with animals when she got older!

Cyndi grew up in Pickerington and has lived here all her life. In 2006, she was looking for something to occupy her time in the evenings, and knew she’d love to do something with animals. In March of that year, she started here at Winchester Veterinary Clinic as a receptionist and has happily served the pets and animal owners of the area ever since.

At home, Cyndi has four dogs of her own. Annie is 10 and hates loud noises, Trigger is a sweet 11-year-old lab, Walker serves as the protector of the group, and Lucy, the bulldog, is a big momma’s girl. Cali the cat rounds out the animal family.

Cyndi has five boys (including two sets of twins) and seven grandchildren. When she isn’t spending time with them or caring for her many pets, she enjoys working out at the gym, cooking, baking, canning, and riding the motorcycle with her husband.

Ginger

Ginger

Receptionist

Gin’s journey into veterinary care began two years ago when she became a veterinary receptionist, but her love for animals goes back much further. Growing up in northeastern Ohio as the oldest of seven siblings, her childhood home was a lively mix of dogs, cats, birds, rabbits, hamsters, snakes, and even a pet skunk. This early experience sparked a deep, lifelong connection with animals that shaped her into the compassionate caregiver she is today.

Her career choices have always centered on helping others. From working as an STNA and surgical tech to pharmacy tech and nursing school, Gin has consistently sought roles where she could make a difference. But it wasn’t until she adopted Cooper, her loyal Havanese, that she realized her calling extended beyond people to include fur-babies as well. Through many of life’s challenges, including her mother’s battle with cancer, Cooper was her constant companion, driving thousands of miles with her and offering unconditional love. Their bond solidified Gin’s belief that animals aren’t just pets—they’re family.

When the world slowed down after the COVID-19 pandemic, Gin’s path became clear. She joined Winchester Veterinary Clinic, where she could finally blend her love for animals with her knack for customer service. Now, her days are filled with unpredictability, from emergency calls to scheduling appointments and cuddling puppies, cats, birds, and even bearded dragons. No two days are the same, but every single one of them is fulfilling.

At home, Gin’s world is just as lively. She and her husband John (her best friend of 24 years before marriage) have six children, four grandchildren, and four fur-babies: Cooper, the toy-bringer; Coda, the snuggle queen; Caydence, the firecracker; and Coal Blue, a spirited Goldendoodle who quickly became Caydence’s partner-in-crime. Together, their family is a joyful, love-filled whirlwind of kids, grandkids, and lots of playful paws.

When Gin isn’t helping animals or doting on her family, she unleashes her creativity through crafting. From painting every wall art piece in her home to refinishing furniture with her husband, she finds joy in creating meaningful, personal works of art. Her story is one of devotion—to family, to animals, and to living a life filled with love, compassion, and a little bit of creative flair.

Sydney

Sydney

Veterinary Assistant, Receptionist

Sydney grew up surrounded by animals. It was just a way of life for her family, and with a few relatives already in veterinary medicine, it seemed as though it was always in the cards that she’d one day end up following a similar path. As a receptionist and veterinary assistant here at Winchester Veterinary Clinic, Sydney is fulfilling her purpose while also enjoying all the puppy and kitten snuggles she can along the way!

In 2018, Sydney joined the Winchester team and quickly endeared herself to her colleagues, clients and patients alike! She is currently a student at Ohio Wesleyan University, majoring in neuroscience with plans to attend veterinary school once she completes her undergraduate work. Professionally, Sydney loves the variety of different cases she sees and has developed a keen ability to take notice of the little things, which she notes often end up making a big impact.

At home, Sydney is fur-mom to four dogs of her own: a terrier mix named Lexi, who started out as a foster but ended up staying; a beagle, Punkin-Hallmark, who was named for the store she was found behind; a mutt named Spidergirl; and a Chihuahua named Skippyjon Jones, who thinks he’s a cat. A retired college athlete, Sydney now coaches softball and gives private lessons. She also enjoys dabbling in photography – a skill that recently earned her the title of Best in Show at the state fair.

Sam

Sam

Veterinary Assistant

Most children don’t know what they want to be when they grow up, but not Sam. He knew at a very young age that he wanted to be in the veterinary field. Today he’s a veterinary assistant at Winchester Veterinary Clinic, where he gets to make a difference in the lives of every animal that comes in. Safe to say, he’s living out his childhood dream!

Sam was born and raised in Reynoldsburg, OH, in a household with his parents and brother. He was interested in art and photography, but his main focus was on animals – he spent a lot of time watching Animal Planet, specifically a show called “Houston ASPCA.” This show revealed the neglectful, abusive situations that some animals have to endure, and it inspired Sam to want to make a difference in the lives of animals.

Sam got his foot in the door of the veterinary world by landing a job as a kennel technician, which taught him the basics of animal care and the veterinary field. Eventually, fate would lead him to Winchester Veterinary Clinic, where he would fit in perfectly with the staff.

Everyone has their own favorite aspect of being a veterinary assistant. Sam’s favorite parts include carefully observing slides with urine to detect bacteria, and inspecting smears of ears and skin for infection.

Currently, Sam is the proud owner of a pitbull mix named Randall, a cat named Fergie, a ball python named Murphy, and a rabbit named Charlotte. In his free time, he enjoys his current role as secretary of the STEM club at Columbus State Community College, and he still enjoys his old hobbies of photography and drawing.
