Are you having company over the next few weeks? Reconnecting with friends and family is a big part of seasonal events and festivities for many people. Fido and Fluffy can definitely make your home feel warm, cozy, and inviting, but they can be messy roommates. A Pickerington, OH vet offers some helpful cleaning tips for pet owners below.
Bath Mat
Fido really can’t help tracking snow and slush in. Put a large outdoor mat or carpet outside your door. A red bath mat will work great for absorption, but will still look nice and festive. Wiping your dog’s paws down with a damp cloth or wipes will also help. Better yet, teach your pup that he gets a yummy treat if he wipes his own feet!
Surfaces
One way to immediately make your place look great is to clean hard surfaces, such as TV screens, windows, and appliances. Run some disposable wipes over everything.
Fur Busting
Does your furry pal shed a lot? Get an appliance made just for picking up pet fur. There are several budget-friendly tools out there, such as handheld mini-vacuums or brooms. You can also use a damp cloth or sponge, a squeegee, or rubber dish gloves to get your pet’s hair off your furniture. There are even vacuum attachments you can use to get fur off your pet. (Of course, you’ll need to let Fluffy and Fido weigh in on whether or not you should use these.) Lint rollers are also a must.
Brush Fido Outside
Brushing your canine buddy regularly will help remove dead skin and fur from his coat, which will both keep him comfortable and make him look nice. Take Fido outdoors for his beauty sessions. If it’s cold, just brush him quickly before or after his walk. The extra fur will just blow away!
Smells
Lavender is great for battling pet odors. Changing your air filters can also make a huge difference. If you want to use an aerosol spray, pick something that breaks down scent molecules, rather than just masking them.
Belongings
Don’t forget to clean your pet’s bedding and toys. Use a detergent with baking soda for beds and blankets. You can also use the dishwasher for many of Fido’s toys. Don’t add soap: steam and hot water will do the trick.
